Colorado Rat Breeder: Shinkelydinks Sunrise Rats, a rattery specializing in breeding the happiest, healthiest pet rats in Colorado

My adoption contract may be seen below.  Breeders who adopt from my rattery sign a different contract.

 

Shinkelydinks Sunrise Rats (DINK) Adoption Contract—PET ONLY

 

Shinkelydinks Sunrise Rats is a small rattery in Colorado Springs, CO.  Owned and operated by Karen Stanley, DINK rats are always pets first.  Each baby produced in the rattery is important to us.  We will take back any rat bred by us, for any reason, during its lifetime.  All rats come with a 14-day health and temperament guarantee assuming animals are properly quarantined during this time frame.  Animals kept under strict quarantine and returned within the 14-day trial period can be exchanged for another rat or the adopter will receive their money back.  In the event that a strict quarantine is not kept, no refund or exchange will be available.  Any and all returns will be done at the adopter’s expense (gas, shipping, etc.).  Please read and initial each term of the adoption contract.  This contract is TWO pages in length.

 

____1. I agree that the animals described in this contract are being adopted to me as pets only.  This means that these animals are NOT to be bred at any time, for any reason, by any person.  In the event that this animal is accidentally bred, I will contact Karen at DINK immediately.  All offspring of this rat will be considered the property of DINK.

____2.  I agree to keep this pet in a clean and safe environment for the entirety of its life.  If at any point I am no longer able to care for this rat, Karen has first right of refusal for re-homing the animal.  If the animal is returned to Shinkelydinks Sunrise Rats, it will be done at my expense.  If I wish to re-home the animal, the new adopter must be approved by Karen and must fill out a new adoption contract.

____3.  I will not use pine or cedar shavings as bedding for this pet.  I understand that these beddings can be harmful to rats’ respiratory systems.  Other perfumed or dusty beddings will also be avoided.

____4.  I will feed my rat a fresh and varied diet.  The only commercial diets approved for use are Harlan Teklad diets and Mazuri Rat Diet.

____5.  I will provide adequate caging for my pet.  This includes appropriate toys, beds, wheel, and other necessary accessories.

____6.  In the event that my pet becomes ill or injured, I will notify Karen immediately and seek veterinary care for my pet.  I will not hold the breeder responsible for any veterinary or other expenses I incur as a result of owning this animal.

____7.  I agree to provide fresh food and water for my pet on a daily basis.  In the event that I am out of town or unavailable, I will enlist another responsible person to care for my rat while I am away.

____8.  I understand that rats are very social, and should be kept in same-sex pairs or groups.

____9.  I agree to provide socialization and exercise for my pet in the form of out-of-cage, supervised activity, every day.

____10.  I understand that Shinkelydinks Sunrise Rats recommends quarantining new rats from other rats at a separate location for a period of no less than two weeks.  If I choose not to follow quarantine procedures, I do so at my own risk, and the 14-day guarantee will not apply.

____11.  I will not expose my pet to harmful smokes or fumes.  These include cigarette smoke and cleaning fumes.

____12.  I agree to update the breeder on my animal’s health/temperament no less than once every four months.  I will notify the breeder upon the death of my animal, for any reason.  I will inform the breeder of any changes to my contact information.

____13.  I agree to use the DINK prefix and my animal’s NARR registered name on any official or show forms.

____14.  I have received a completed copy of this contract.

 

By signing below, I agree that if any condition of this contract is not met, I will surrender any and all rats adopted from Shinkelydinks Sunrise Rats to Karen immediately and without compensation and at my own expense in the event that transportation of the rat is necessary.
