Health Notes

This page will be updated regularly with any health issues that pop up in the rattery.  It addresses concerns of ALL rats here, whether they're to be bred or not, and will reflect issues seen in rats adopted from the rattery as well.  I want to be honest about my lines with breeders and potential adopters.

9/25/09--DINK Water Lily (out of Tango DINK and CMMR Tallulah DINK 4/1/09) is having some difficulty getting along with her cagemate and some people.  Will keep our eye out for temperament issues in the line.

6/13--DINK Emu got to go to the vet today.  A tiny nick from when he was a week old turned into an abscess, but the wound is already beginning to heal and drain.  We have anitibiotics to help speed and encourage his recovery.

TOPI Shnoogins's lump has been confirmed as a cyst, and actually appears to be beginning to shrink.

CMMR Othello's itchy scratchies have resolved.  He's had weekly oatmeal baths.  We don't know if O just had dry skin, or if some of the changes to his environment were responsible, but we'll certainly keep watching to see what develops.

5/30--Rachel's surgery today was quite successful.  She's back home, and comfortably relaxing in a cage by herself while her incision heals.  Also, after further research, we feel that the bump on TOPI Shnoogins may simply be a cyst.  it does not appear to cause any discomfort to Shnoogins and is not growing, but if it does, we will have it removed.

5/29--This is the first update for this page, so will be longer than others.  Rachel DINK, supposed sister to Renee DINK (both rescued), and therefore aunt to Tango DINK (bred to CMMR Tallulah for a litter born 4/1/09)  has a tumor that will be removed tomorrow morning.  TOPI Shnoogins has a small pea-sized bump on her side--we're hoping it's an abscess, but will keep everyone updated.  CMMR Othello (brother to CMMR Tallulah, bred for a litter born 4/1/09) has been itchy.  He's been treated for ectoparasites, had his bedding switched, and been bathed, but still seems to be bothered.  We're assuming it's allergies, but are searching for a solution that will put the boy at ease.
